The way you vote is changing

The government has introduced new voter security measures which means, for the first-time, voters will have to show photo ID at the polling station.

Acceptable ID will include a passport, photo driving licence and a national concessionary bus pass. The full list will be available on the back of the poll card.

If you do not have any of the ID required, you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate that will be posted direct to your registered address. Full details of this process will be published in January.

The next elections to take place will be the local council elections on Thursday 4 May 2023.

You need to be on the electoral register to vote in elections and it may also be helpful when you want to get credit for things such as a mortgage or loan.

Please note that paying council tax does not automatically add you to the electoral register.

The easiest way to register is to go online. Visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

Poll cards are changing

A poll card will be sent to all registered electors at the end of March. These will now be A4 sized and delivered in an envelope. The poll card is still for information purposes and not a requirement for voting.

Polling stations will be open 7am to 10pm on Thursday 4 May 2023 – however, if you would prefer you can apply for a postal or proxy vote. You can download the application form from our website or contact email us at elections@uttlesford.gov.uk or call on 01799 510510.

Do you want to earn some extra money?

We are always looking for people to assist at the elections and these are our main roles we recruit for.  Anyone we do not appoint stays on our database for last minute appointments or for future polls:

·         Polling station staff – work in a team to administer the polling station from 6.15am to 10pm on election day

·         Counting assistants – helping to sort and count ballot papers from 9.30am on Friday 5 May at our count venue – the Lord Butler Sports Centre, Saffron Walden

FILLING OF CASUAL VACANCY ON RADWINTER PARISH COUNCIL

 

Notice is hereby given that a vacancy has occurred in the office of parish councillor for the above parish arising from the resignation of Sharon Williams.

 

An election to fill the vacancy will be held if notice in writing of a request for such an election is made by ten Local Government electors for the electoral area* and received by the Proper Officer, C/o Electoral Services, Uttlesford District Council, Council Offices, London Road, Saffron Walden, Essex CB11 4ER, by not later than 25 October 2022.

 

If an election is not requested by ten Local Government electors, the vacancy will be filled by the parish council as soon as practicable after the expiry of the date referred to above.

*if the parish is warded, the 10 signatories all need to be from the parish ward where the vacancy has arisen.

It's important to keep following the government guidance and restrictions as we follow the Covid-19 roadmap out of lockdown. One in three people with coronavirus do not display any symptoms and could be spreading it without realising. If you meet one other person alone from outside your household in an outdoor public space for a coffee, chat or picnic, please remember: hands face space Help to keep your friends, family and community safe by following these measures at all times. Please continue to follow the stay at home rules which remain in place until Monday 29 March. ► More information about the government guidelines can be found on gov.uk Covid data for Essex The latest Covid data for Essex (excluding Southend and Thurrock) is published on the Essex County Council website. Vaccines latest Over 25 million people in the UK have now received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine. If you are 50 or over, are clinically extremely vulnerable, are an eligible frontline health or social care worker, are eligible for carer's allowance or have a learning disability, and have not yet had or been booked for your first vaccination, you can book online or call 119. If you have had the vaccine there is still a chance you could spread coronavirus. This means it is important that you continue to follow government guidance, including social distancing rules ► Find out more about the vaccination programme in Essex Get a test If you're unable to work from home, you can get tested for Covid-19 at a local testing centre. Getting tested regularly gives you peace of mind that you are not unknowingly passing it on to others.  People without symptoms, who live and work in Essex, can get a walk-in appointment or book via the Essex County Council website or by calling 0333 772 6144.  Anyone with symptoms should book a test via www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test. How will you vote at the elections in May? Are you a first time voter? Don't miss the chance to have your voice heard. You have until midnight on 19 April to register to vote. Registering for a postal vote is quick and easy and can be done online. The closing date for applying for a postal vote is 5pm on 20 April. You can also request a proxy vote if you want someone else to vote on your behalf because you can't get to your polling station on polling day. The hub is personal to each user and packed with interactive tools, e-learning content and the latest job opportunities, all designed to help you navigate today's job market and grow in confidence. ► Register for your free account Click it Local: Your high street delivered Residents anywhere in the district can use Click It Local Uttlesford, allowing them to buy from any independent shop and have it delivered to their doorstep. From weekly food essentials, gifts and treats to last minute basics, customers can buy everything they need from as many different shops as they like with one payment and one delivery.  Delivery costs are now capped at £6 meaning customers can shop from more of their favourite shops. Fraud aware Essex Police, in partnership with Uttlesford Community Safety Partnership, have created a guide to the most common scams seen during the pandemic, along with advice on how to protect yourself from becoming a victim in the future. The booklet, which has been sent out to households across the district, includes information about fake emails, texts and phishing, suspicious phone calls, online shopping fraud. Fraud or attempted fraud can be reported to Action Fraud. If you or someone you know is vulnerable and has been a victim of fraud, please call Essex Police on 101. Census Day is 21 March Census 2021 day is this Sunday, 21 March. By filling in your census, you will help shape Uttlesford for the next 10 years.  The census is collecting information about us and where we live on Sunday 21 March, but that is not a deadline that you have to meet for returning forms. The vast majority of people will be completing the census online, but if you are using a paper copy you can put that in the post after 21 March. If you'd prefer to complete your questionnaire on paper you can request one to be sent to you. Census information events Local information event Great Notley Parish Council is hosting a virtual event for you to learn more about the census, get help with the questionnaire and have your questions answered. The event is on Wednesday 24 March, 7pm to 9pm. Virtual support session The Office for National Statistics is putting on a series of safe space virtual workshops where they will walk you through the online and paper census forms and answer any questions you may have. By taking part in the Broadband Survey, you'll help Superfast Essex identify whether your address is eligible to be included in future state-funded broadband rollouts. The Uttlesford Making a Difference Awards aim to recognise those people who have made a difference to others. The closing date for nominations is 14 April. Celebrating Diversity Across Uttlesford The first in a series of virtual 'listening events' has been held to celebrate diversity across Uttlesford and delve deeper into the challenges faced in creating a diverse and inclusive community. Hayley Bennett, a multi-award-winning diversity and inclusion consultant, led the event which included presentations given by Victim Support and campaign project, Snapping the Stiletto. Local people from the Black and ethnic minority community also spoke of their experiences, whilst discussions were centred on identity, impressions of Uttlesford and experiences of living in the district. The event is available to watch on You Tube. Affinity Water debt help Affinity Water has a range of measures in place to help customers who may be struggling to pay their bill. Households on low incomes or who receive certain benefits or have a medical condition that requires the extra use of water, may be eligible for a range of different tariffs. Anyone who has been affected financially by coronavirus may also be eligible for payment breaks, different tariffs or spreading the cost of their bill.
